Another CR84FN18 card!

I'm still loving these orange, yellow, and kraft colors so I sat down and made one more card for the CR84FN18 challenge!

This time I tried a new technique of using alcohol inks on vellum. I found this video by Sue on the Hero Arts Flicker site and just had to give it a try.



I used the colors of Sunset orange and Sunshine yellow alcohol inks on the vellum. I stamped the flower using Brilliance Moonlight white and embossed with white detail powder.

Here is a close up of the flowers- you can really see the fun marbled look of the alcohol ink. 

 I used these 2 stamp sets.........and had this card made in under 30 minutes- a rather quick and easy card :)

Now I've got a sympathy card on hand should I ever need it. This technique of using the alcohol inks on the vellum is really fun and quick- plus it looks so cool too!I think I'll try it again using some other colors and stamps.

Spring Poppies!

Here is a card I created last night while playing with the alcohol inks! I really wanted to see how the inks would look on the blossoms.....and to be honest I didn't feel like taking the time to hand color them all in. I did the emboss resist technique on glossy cardstock. I stamped it in Versamark onto the glossy cardstock, poured on my white embossing powder and heat set it all. Then I used the alcohol inks using the colors watermelon, sunshine yellow, and sunset orange to get just the right mix of colors (I had to re-apply and play with this a bit). I just dabbed the applicator over the empty flower heads (using a dabbing motion and sometimes a wiping motion), and then came back with a clean felt pad soaked in the alcohol blending solution to remove any color left on top of the white. I literally sat there with a Q-tip soaked in the alcohol to remove the color in the teeny little intricate areas.......I was worried it would really stain the white embossed part badly but it didn't! I then came back and added the dots to the center of the flowers using my white souffle pen. Found a $1 Easter sentiment stamp- got out my border punch,  and all done!! I love the vibrant colors of this!! The poppy stamp is by none other than my favorite stamp Co. Hero Arts!

More Alcohol ink cards!

I was playing with the alcohol inks again the other night and found you can create some interesting striped backgrounds by wiping your applicator across your glossy cardstock! I just picked up a set of the bright colors (watermelon, citrus green, sail boat blue) and wanted to play with them! I grabbed another favorite Hero Arts stamp and did 2 cards with different backgrounds. The pink one I decided to change the sentiment to a birthday one, so I stamped it on green cardstock and popped it up for some dimension. I came back and added some Glossy Accents to a few spots for more interest and texture. As you can see I really like bright colors and of course my all time favorite- black!

Here is one more expirament with the wiping technique on glossy cardstock! This time I loaded my applicator with the blending solution first, then loaded all the assorted colors side by side and just started wiping away....! I really love how it looks like a beach towel.......at least that's what I think! So I borrowd a fishing lure stamp from my cousin and stamped it on there and colored it in , but that's as far as I've gotten with it. Just thought you might enjoy seeing something different using a wiping technique! If any of you can think of a good sentiment to go with the fishing lure let me know.......I'd like to make this into a card for my sister who loves fishing as much as I do.

Alcohol inks and Brayer cards!

I decided to play with the alcohol inks and the brayer again after getting a few cards done for the challenge I'm hosting over at ISC. I grabbed some of my Hero Arts silhouette flower stamps after getting some nice colors of alcohol inks done on my glossy cardstock. These were inspired by Tim Holtz and all the fabulous things he creates. I stamped the flowers in black Stazon and just kept them very simple. I really like on the purple card how there are those big circles of lighter colored ink- I just dropped the blending solution on after it the multiple colors dried. Then I tried to get the head of the flowers highlighted in the circles for some wow factor!
 Here is a tip for keeping costs down when using the alcohol inks. I just buy a few pieces of plain white felt at Michael's and cut them up myself- it's so much cheaper than buying the premade packs by Ranger (I think they were 99 cents for an 8x11 sheet).

Next up is the brayer card I did using a stamp by Clear Dollar Stamps. I've had this stamp set with 2 covered bridge scenes for a few months and never really made anything with it yet. I brayered the top of the sky but then came back with sponges also to get in and around the tree and roof of the barn, I also added a darker blue ink on the top of the sky. I added some snow flakes with my white gel pen and some other snow here and there, and even added a few white stickles also. I turned out pretty good for a first time inking up that stamp. I might try to do a fall version of this card- but i want to get some flowersoft or make my own flowersoft for some leaves on the tree. I'm due for a trip to Michaels soon to restock on black cardstock and see if there are any new and fun Studio G Valentines stamps out yet.

First Challenge of the new year!

This week I am the challenge hostess over at Inspire Swap Chat. I gave the players 2 options depending on what they had for supplies. Either make a creation using a brayered background or create something using alcohol inks. I made this card quick today pulling out the alcohol inks. It was kind of inspired by some new artwork in my bedroom (I recently repainted it so I had to get some new stuff for the walls). I used the colors ginger, caramel, and latte and also added some of the copper mixative too. I took a close up shot so you can see the copper shimmer. I used my fave set "Lovely as a Tree" from SU for this. No sentiment yet, thought I would wait to add one once I figure out who to send the card too.

Here is my brayer card I did for the challenge. I actually stamped the image a long time ago when I was visiting my cousins stamp studio- the butterfly and foilage was stamped and then embossed in clear powder. I just decided today to try to brayer over the background for a nice blue sky. I'm a bit out of practice with the prayer, not really happy with my sky (looks kind of splotchy to me). These kinds of cards are my favorite to make- right in my comfort zone- and for me they are actually the easiest and least time consuming. I'm not a huge fan of lots of layers and all sorts of patterned papers- I struggle with that often. I'll try to make some more alcohol ink  and brayer cards this week- it was fun to dabble in that again. Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate all your wonderful comments you all leave me!
