Hi ya everyone!
I haven't blogged in a while....been busy........we decided to jump in full force to tap our maple trees and make syrup this year! Our neighbors talked us into it......my gosh what were we thinking?
We have been doing a bunch of this.....walking out in the muddy/snowy forest collecting sap every day...my oh my those pails are heavy- my arms and legs are getting a serious workout I tell ya!
Then lots of time cooking it down on the weekends (which takes about 12 hours).
This last weekend we cooked down a whopping 65 gallons.......which yields just over 2 gallons of actual syrup. I can tell you it is soooo yummy- the best darn syrup I've ever had.....we have been eating homemade waffles and pancakes just about every day. We have maybe another 2 weeks of gathering sap and then life will be back to normal ( I hope! )
Plan to get some much needed crafting done then.............See you soon!
Anne

Ohhh, does this look yummy, Anne!!! I love waffles, and I bet your syrup is wonderful!
ReplyDelete12 hours to cook it????? Are you joking? Wow what do you cook it on? I've thought of doing it too! I never realized how much! Just a heads up if I come to Minneapolis this spring/summer hopefully we can meet up! And you can bring me some syrup!!!!! :>
ReplyDeleteAW.... what a labor of LOVE!! I just had my Canadian maple syrup this morning with my French toast! Nothing taste like the REAL thing!! I bet yours tastes amazing...I mean, by looking at the colors, it's the amber grade--which produces the sweet and more intense flavor! Thanks for sharing your adventure with the making of syrup. Years ago I went to the maple syrup tree farm and saw the making of it. It's truly an awesome experience! Glad to see you're blogging again, Anne!
ReplyDeleteOh I love real maple syrup! Now I understand why it costs so much! 65 gallons cooked down to 2. Darn!
